每一只抽沙船都缺少不了定位桩，所谓的定位桩就是为一根卷板构成筒状的构件，下端呈锥形，外形相似于一支铅笔，故又称铅笔桩。底部一般灌注石块或铁块，以降低重心。
抽沙船均有两根固定桩。施工时，主桩位于开挖中心线上并保持插入状态，副桩保持悬空状态。当需要挖泥船前移、改变绞刀的纵向切土时，主副桩交替下落。严禁两根固定桩同时下落进行施工生产及抗风。
